Conservation Engineer

Description:
In this position, you will work with contractors to manage construction activities, including processing change orders, waste disposal activities and building permits.

Responsibilities include working with customers, contractors, facility and NYPA personnel to examine facilities to determine suitable replacement equipment proposals relative to lighting systems and controls, HVAC systems and controls, drive power (motors, VFD’s), Building Management Control Systems, Compressed Air Systems and building Envelope (window, roofing, insulation, etc.); developing equipment specifications, labor contractors bid specifications, material listing and providing appropriate design layouts and drawings; reviewing and recommending award of labor and material contracts; identifying the presence of asbestos or other hazardous materials; assembling audit findings and developing facility designs and customer installation commitment documents (CIC); performing energy consumption analysis and reviewing energy billing records; coordinating with Environmental Division on waste disposal issues, practices and procedures; processing all documentation and sending final report to customer for billing; working with customers to ascertain optimal design relative to external funding sources; visiting project locations regularly; and working on independent projects and providing assistance to other Project Managers with their individual design and implementation efforts as needed.

Requirements:
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, along with a minimum of 5 years experience in designing and implementing energy efficiency and conservation projects. They should also be proficient in the use of microcomputers and software packages including Spreadsheets, Word Processing, Databases, etc. Must have good project management skills, as well as excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Competence in all phases of communication, collaboration, leadership, decision-making and efficiency is essential. Candidates must also have the ability to work on multiple projects and assignments simultaneously. Regular site visits to the 5 boroughs of NYC, Long Island, Westchester County and other locations throughout NYS are required. Must have the flexibility to work evening and/or weekend hours as necessary. Affiliation or working relationship with AEE, CEE, DOE, IES, ASHRAE, NYSERDA, EPRI, ACEEE and other similar organizations is preferred.
