For more than a decade, the Power Authority has performed energy-efficiency upgrades at a growing list of public facilities across the state, and the effort continues to gather steam. NYPA’s total investments in the projects have surpassed $1 billion (the investments are recovered through energy savings). Taxpayers now save more than $93 million each year in energy costs. The upgrades can be as large as efficient heating and air conditioning systems, or as small as sensors that automatically turn off lights when a room is unoccupied. (more)

The Power Authority has demonstrated the feasibility of electric and hybrid-electric vehicles as a way to reduce air pollution and dependence on foreign oil. We are working with a refined concept, a “plug-in” hybrid-electric that can draw power from the grid as well as an internal combustion engine. Along with automobiles, our demonstration projects include buses and off-road utility vehicles. (more)
