Nowhere was NYPA’s direction more evident than in its ambitious program to place its 17-story White Plains office building among the ranks of the healthiest, most energy-efficient and most environmentally sound buildings in the nation. After pursuing a checklist of modifications and activities, we announced in early 2007 that it had earned the United States Green Building Council's coveted GOLD award for Existing Buildings.

Photo of "green" cleaning productBeyond reducing energy and water use, the award signifies that we have increased use of recycled materials and improved air quality by employing cleaning products that are biodegradable and low in toxicity and installing an air filtration system that reduces levels of carbon dioxide.
