FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NORTH BLENHEIM—The New York Power Authority (NYPA)
will offer a free hiking expedition through trails of the Schoharie
Valley in the northern Catskills on Sat., May 23.
Those interested in taking part in the event should
meet at the visitors center for NYPA’s Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped
Storage Power Project at 11 a.m., rain or shine.
Trail grades are easy, though participants are
encouraged to wear hiking or other sturdy shoes. During the one-hour
hike, Andrea Porter, a New York State licensed outdoor interpreter,
and Brain Strasavich, Mine Kill State Park facility manager, will
look for signs of spring and teach participants how to identify new
growth on trees. Free refreshments will be served.
Before or after the hike, participants are
encouraged to stop at the NYPA visitors center and Historic Lansing
Manor, both admission-free. Visitors will enjoy the many hands-on
displays and exhibits on energy, and experience the rich history of
a 19th-century estate. Both facilities will be open from 10 a.m. to
5 p.m.
The visitors center and adjacent Lansing Manor are
located on Route 30 in North Blenheim, five miles north of Grand
Gorge, 17 miles south of Middleburgh and 50 miles southwest of
Albany. For more information, please call 1-800-724-0309.
