New York State Safe Boater Certification Course Scheduled for Power Authority Visitors Center Contact: April 8, 2009 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NORTH BLENHEIM—A New York State Safe Boater Certification course will be held on Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the New York Power Authority’s (NYPA) Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage Power Project visitors center. Dennis Downs, a certified instructor with the Northeastern New York Safety & Health Council, Inc., will conduct the free eight-hour course. To receive the Safe Boating Certificate, participants must complete the classroom session and pass the final exam with a grade of 75 percent or more. They must be at least 18 years old. New York State charges a $10 administrative fee to obtain the certificate. Coffee and tea will be served, but those attending should bring their lunch. The admission-free visitors center, open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., is located 17 miles south of Middleburgh on Route 30. About NYPA: ■ NYPA uses no tax money or state credit.
