The Otsego Electric Cooperative is located in Central New York State.

Welcome to the Otsego Electric Cooperative web page! Our fast-growing system includes the Central New York counties of Chenango, Herkimer, Madison and Otsego. Our cooperative was established in 1941 by a group of rural residents who wanted electricity for their homes and farms. In the summer of 1944, we had 53.5 miles of power lines in operation, serving 85 customers. As of 2004, we have almost 750 miles of line energized and about 4,200 customers. Our system is growing at a rate of nearly two percent per year.

Although 97 percent of our customers at present are residential, we welcome new business and industry into our service territory. Tourism and recreational activities represent a major portion of our economy, and for good reason. Cooperstown, with its National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum plus many other attractions, is in the vicinity of our service area. So is the City of Oneonta, which boasts two colleges and the fledgling National Soccer Hall of Fame. The Susquehanna River runs through part of our territory. Nearby is the 1,600-acre Gilbert Lake State Park, with more than 12 miles of trails around its scenic 38-acre lake.Otsego Coop. linemen

Among the businesses that already belong to our cooperative are two saw mills, a tool and die manufacturer and a few furniture manufacturers. We also count among our customers the Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton School District in Otsego County and the Unadilla Valley School District in Chenango County. New development around the Cooperstown area will increase the demand for additional businesses and services, many of which we hope to develop a working relationship with.

Our cooperative, which became a New York Power Authority customer in 1958, benefits from some of the lowest cost electricity in New York State. We would be happy to discuss way that we could help you establish your business within our service area.
