| The Oneida- Madison Electric
Cooperative is headquartered in Bouckville, a picturesque community in Central New York
State. |
Welcome to the Oneida-Madison Electric Cooperative web page! Our service area
covers much of Madison County plus the southwest corner of Oneida County, about 1,250
square miles in all. We are located in Central New York, an area known as the
Leatherstocking Region, about 45 miles east of Syracuse and 30 miles west of Utica.
This is a rural area, with several medium-to-large tracts of undeveloped land available
for business or industry. Customers now served by our electric cooperative are mostly
residences, small firms and family farms. In fact, one of the businesses we provide
electricity for is Custom Wood Craft, a Mennonite family enterprise that produces custom
furniture.
The communities covered in our service area include the townships of Augusta,
Brookfield, Eaton, Fenner, Georgetown, Hamilton, Kirkland, Lebanon, Madison, Marshall,
Nelson and Smithfield. Besides the well-known Turning Stone Casino, located about 15 miles
to the north, our region has such local attractions as Americana Village, a 19th
century restoration, in Hamilton, and the Madison-Bouckville Antiques Community.
Our proximity to several Central New York cities makes this area an ideal bedroom
community for commuters. We have seven local school districts within our service
territory. Nearby are Colgate University, in Hamilton, and the State University of New
York at Morrisville.

The Oneida Electric Cooperative was established in 1941; a year later, with the
inclusion of Madison County, Oneida-Madison Electric Cooperative Incorporated was
established. The system became a New York Power Authority customer in 1959, shortly after
NYPAs first hydroelectric station, the St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project, began
producing power. We presently serve more than 1,600 customers. As one of the Power
Authoritys municipal/cooperative partners, we benefit from some of the lowest cost
electricity in New York State, making our cooperatives jurisdiction an excellent
place to locate your business.
