FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will honor Benjamin Franklin and his contributions to electricity from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, at its admission-free Power Vista, the visitors center for NYPA’s Niagara Power Project.  The event is part of the Power Vista’s on-going Sensational Saturdays series.

The free event will include an appearance by “Benjamin Franklin,” played by Robert Cooke of the Theatre of Youth Company, Inc. – a non-profit professional theatre company in Buffalo, dedicated to the enhancement of life in the community through enrichment, education and entertainment of young audiences.

The Power Vista event will include an interactive performance from the Theatre Youth Company’s recent production, “Ben Franklin’s Apprentice,” at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., in the Power Vista’s Community Room.  Visitors are also invited to pose for a souvenir photo with Ben in front of his famous kite, simulating the iconic kite experiment. (The period prop was crafted by the Niagara Falls High School theatre group.) Short videos about Benjamin Franklin and staff demonstrations on the Basics of Electricity will be conducted throughout the event.

Guests are also invited to enjoy the Power Vista’s attractions, which include displays and interactive exhibits relating to the production of electricity, energy efficiency and the area’s history, as well as spectacular views from the observation deck 350 feet above the Niagara River Gorge. Parking and admission at the Power Vista, located at 5777 Lewiston Road, Lewiston, is always free.
