Technical Training Instructor (Operations)

Description:
The candidate will be responsible for identifying training requirements, developing and initiating operations training programs, maintaining training records, and coordinating vendor training when necessary. These programs will consist of apprentice curriculum for apprentice operators, and project specific courses for operations personnel in order to increase their technical competence and minimize operational errors. This will include keeping current with, and training on, any new or replacement equipment. Responsibilities will also include meeting with Operations Department personnel to provide technical advice regarding the requirements and procedures necessary to safely operate plant equipment. The candidate will also keep abreast of NYISO and NERC policies and review forced outages and unit start failures to recommend procedural or equipment changes to mitigate future failures.   

Requirements:
BS degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or the equivalent, with a min. 8 years of power plant operations experience including 2 years of hydro plant operations.  Must have working knowledge of basic electrical concepts, SCADA systems, protective relays, etc and keep current with DOSH regulations and NYPA safety policies.  Must have working knowledge of MAXIMO and Microsoft Office software.  Must have excellent  planning, written, organization, presentation and communication skills.  Must be capable of performing the written competencies of the job description which will be discussed during the interview.  Must be physically capable of performing the duties at each level of the Operator classification.
